This Sri Lanka series follows everyday work and quiet devotion across the island’s coasts and highlands. In Negombo, the rhythm starts at sea level—fishermen pushing out at dawn, sorting the catch, mending nets, and returning to the lagoon-side markets. Inland, around Kandy, the lens turns toward temples and monasteries, where monks and young devotees move through study, chanting, and ritual with a calm intensity.

Further south, the hills of Hatton reveal a different tempo: tea estates shaped by steep terrain and long days, where Tamil tea pickers harvest leaf by leaf, often living within the estate lines that have organized plantation life for generations. Along the southern shore, iconic stilt fishermen and cinnamon peelers speak to adaptation—traditions that survive, evolve, and sometimes fade—while near Galle, young novice monks embody a faith learned early and lived daily.
